Scrapbooking Top 50 - January

SBT50 - Be happy, Be Bright, Be You

Be Totally Awesome!
This quote is a wonderful fun way to start the year.
It may have taken me awhile to find the right photo for this page, but I think this one is perfect.

I wanted to use the metallic gold from the moodboard, so I started with some gold texture/crackle paste for the background stars and smeared around the edge of the paper. For extra shimmer...a harlequin stencil and Colourarte radiant gel and a heart stencil and Shimmerz Texturez.
After adding the quote, and adding to the quote, I finished the page with washi tape, metallic flowers, giant rhinestones, enamel dots, new bradz and die cuts.

D-Lish Scraps - Summer Squeeze

D-Lish Scraps January challenge

The Ochre Jersey
The January moodboard was full of bright summery inspiration, however I struggled to find the right photo to scrap. Until I took this photo at the final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide (Jan 22nd).

The background texture was created by using several different stencils, matte texture paste and some tangerine dream ColourBlast paste. I added some splotches of Ken Oliver's liquid metals in metallic manderin, and some distress crayon in mustard seed. I wanted a busy, textured background because I wanted to keep the finishing embellishments fairly simple. I have included some bits and pieces from the JAP summer squeeze kit, how cute is the camera? I have also used some D-Lish Scraps glitter enamel dots.
I am very pleased with the finished page, masculine but not my usual bronze/turquoise grungy look. And that's why we love scrapbook challenges!

Off the Rails Scrapbooking - January challenge

Off the Rails - Monochrome challenge

This is my first time entering the Off the Rails challenges.
I thought this photo taken by my husband during one of his cycling adventures, would be perfect for the monochome moodboard.

Don't follow your dreams chase them.

It all started with some Shimmerz Texturez in blue (zig zag) and white (chevrons), followed by some mist in a lighter blue and white.
I opened out some white paper ribbon, and stuck this down next to some washi tape.  The chipboard pieces I painted with white gesso. To complete the page I added three embellishment clusters, some random enamel spots. There are some darker blue micro beads around the embellishment clusters, but they barely show up in this photo.

White..with 1 - January challenge

WW1...Princess Pink

Always wear your Invisible Crown

This photo of Kenzie and Chelsea, looking beautiful, was taken before their year 12 formal.
I started this layout with a textured background, using with the new(ish) Tim Holtz grit paste. To achieve the correct colour pink, I used a blend of two mists and an ink.  To highlight the white a bit more, I then went over several of the leaves and bricks and the chipboard pieces with ColourBlast snow white colour paste. It doesn't show in this photo but the layout has a lovely icy white sparkle from the colour paste. To finish off, I used some floral embellishments, pearls, acetate, jewel flairs and two plaster birds.

CSI: Colour Stories Inspiration - case #222

Snow Cat
case #222

How I solved the case:
Scheme: all five colours used
Evidence: snowflakes, jewels, flowers, stamps
Testimony: document something about winter

This photo is one that Kenzie took while at Mt Hotham for the school 'Snow Trip'. The snow cat was the smaller friend of a snow man - not in frame! It was a really great trip, Kenzie and her friends spent four action packed days skiing and snowboarding. Fantastic!

Scrap the Boys - January challenge

Scrap the boys - number challenge

How many bikes do you need?
It all started when Steve bought an Apollo 26 inch, next came a Giant 29 inch (pictured), then..."I think I need a road bike", the Avanti. I thought that might be it...but no, next a "fixie, at least it was second and much cheaper...then wait...a Reid "ride to work" bike...now I am hearing whispers of a cyclocross!!!!!!

The background of this page started with some "mod rock" left over from a school project of Kenzie's. I placed the mod rock in a L shape. Next I covered the tape in various mists in the usual blues/browns. Some Colour Blast paste added some extra texture. Some more mists. The embellishments included jute cord, leaves, flowers, chipboard branch and cogs, bronze washers and some brown pearls.

CSI: Colour Stories Inspiration case file #221

Enjoy Stage 6
case #221

How I solved the case:
The scheme: all five colours used
The evidence: triangles, circles, different coloured letter stickers, enamel dots, leaves
The testimony: inspirational word life

This photo was taken at the final stage of the 2015 Tour Down Under. It was a great day. Being a street circuit of about 4.5km long, we got to see the cyclists go past about every 6 minutes. This was also a little bittersweet; it was the last time Cadell Evans was to race in Adelaide before his retirement.

Crafty Divas January challenge - Celebrations

Celebrate
I love all the photos we have of Kenzie 'all dressed up' for her year 12 formal, a fun evening with friends celebrating the finale of their secondary school years.

Texture paste was the base of this page. I had fun experimenting with some watercolour ink, creating quite a colourful background. I kept the colour happening adding an assortment of bright embellishments. The bold background was balanced by the simplicity of the photo. I was very happy with the finished page.

I was also very happy to learn that I had won the challenge with this layout. Yay!!!

SUYS - Every summer has a story

TDU Village
We love the Tour Down Under and every year the TDU village is a fun place to visit. This photo was taken a few hours before the start of the TDU finale in 2015.

SUYS created a fun moodboard for January. My inspiration from the moodboard was the aqua, orange and pink, arranged in stripes, the star background, a summer story and a flamingo...just because. My handmade items - the flag pennants for the title, wood veneers - Corbett Creations, pink star - Charms Creations, flowers - Scrappers Garden and D-Lish Scraps, flair - also from D-Lish Scraps.

Kraft Plus - January challenge

Kraft Plus - On your bike challenge

Do What Makes You Happy
When I saw the topic for this months Kraft Plus challenge I was very happy. My husband takes some amazing photos while out cycling and they give me the chance to play with some textured background.

So the background...I started with some TH grit paste using a fish net stencil. I added some dry wall tape and misted the lot in browns and blues. On top of this I stenciled some texture paste coloured with distress ink. Some kraft 'ribbon/tape', washi tape, bronze sinamay and random stamping completed the background. Finishing touches included some gold micro beads, metal cogs, flowers, wood veneers and a few touches of gilders paste.

Henna Art
This is my first entry in a Scrap the Girls challenge. I loved the mood board for December, the pretty peach colours, but I didn't have a suitable photo and in the end simply ran out of time.
When I saw the January mood board I knew that it was perfect for these photos taken in May when Kenzie and I volunteered at the RACE - Racial and Cultural Event held locally.

I used my new ColourArte radiant gel for the background, with a Couture Creations stencil. The chipboard (thin) hearts with a henna style design worked beautifully with the page. The flowers are a mixed bunch from my stash.
