Too Cute

 The peaches and cream moodboard looked very pretty. I was keen to use my 'Just add paper' December kit when I created this layout, it really did make it easier to put the page together. 

And who doesn't love meerkats? I thought the sandy background colours of this photo would go well with the moodboard, while giving a different twist to another "zoo" picture.

The background hearts were created using Shimmerz Texturez and a tinted matte texture paste, I also added some acrylic hearts and a couple die cuts. Most of the embellishments came from the JAP kit, complemented by a few extras 'bits and pieces'.

How I solved the case.

The scheme: pale buttery cream - photo mat and journal strips, pale pink - pink heart on enamel spot, micro beads on chipboard, pale aqua blue and pale minty green - photo mat, muted red - floral embellishments.

Evidence: wood veneer stars, wood veneer and enamel hearts, flowers, sprinkle something - micro beads.

Testimony: the inspirational word "tradition".

I love the finished layout for this case, but this is very different to what I envisaged when the case file was first released. I am loving scrapping the photos from my daughter's (Kenzie) formal and this layout started with the photo. Initially I thought the beautiful mint green of Caitlin's dress would be the perfect highlight for a light, pretty, pastel page. But I was not happy with any of the more pastel background papers I had. I also found it difficult to work the 'muted red' into the scheme...so I decided to make the red a focus.

 How I solved the case.

The sketch: I wanted to use a 6 x 4 photo for this layout, and adapted the sketch to suit. I have kept most of the embellishments going across the page, but in place of other photos I have also placed some washi tape, brads and stars going down the page.

The scheme: The colours in the photo really worked well with the colour scheme. The chipboard I painted olive green, lots of bright red embellishments, the journalling is on light kraft and the photo is matted with black and white.

Evidence: I have used ribbon- red and black, metal brads - glittery gold, and wood veneer stars. 

Testimony: the inspirational word "wish"; I actually wish so much for my daughter...but it would not all fit on one page!

I am really happy with this page. My daughter recently graduated from high school and it is exciting to be scrapping her high school formal photos.

Waiting for Santa

This photo was taken last year, our cat Coco took to lying under the Christmas tree. Sometimes she would lie at the back, hiding away; and other times she would be at the front, almost like she was guarding the tree. And yes, that is a pirate frog also standing guard.

I have tried to give this page a fun festive feel. From the mood board I have used similar colours, some fox paper, a star, some hearts and some wood veneer snowflakes.

My Family

The SUYS challenge this month was to use the above sketch and to include the word "Together". A page about my family would be perfect. This photo was taken during a recent visit to the Botanical Gardens in Adelaide. 

With this layout I wanted to showcase some handmade embellishments from several small businesses that support a few of the monthly scrapbook challenges.

I have used a Charms Creations heart, Corbett Creations wood veneer hearts, and D-lish Scraps flowers and flair.

There just seems to be something about boxes and paperbags that is soooo exciting for our cats. They love jumping, hiding or even napping in them, as if it is the most natural thing to do.

After many years of reading Scrapbooking Memories, this year I decided to enter the Scrapbooking Masters competition. My entry was unsuccessful. My congratulations to the winners, the Scrapbooking Memories Masters for 2017. However when reading the magazine, it was very exciting to see this layout in the honourable mentions sections. It is nice to be a 'published' scrapbooker.

Beautiful

 This is my first time entering a D-lish Scraps challenge. I was enticed by the bright vibrant colours of the November mood board. 

This photo was taken at the Mt Lofty Botanical Gardens a few years ago. A section of the gardens is devoted to magnolia trees. There are various varieties and they are all beautiful. Hiding behind the flowers (unsuccessfully) is my eldest daughter, also beautiful, hence the name for my page.

The background of my layout was created using some Shimmerz texture pastes and mist. I also used the mist to colour the cheesecloth. The floral embellishments are from various flower packs...whatever I had in the correct colours. The wood veneer word and heart, I painted white, I love the white on white of the title.

November seems to have flown by, and I have only just completed this layout with two days to go.

Despite the time pressure, I am very happy with this page. The sketch is quite different to what I would normally do...which is the whole idea of 'a challenge'...and I feel that this format is one that I will use again. So thank you to the amazing team at SBT50.

This page features another photo of my husband's cycling adventures. This time tackling one of the hills that is frequently visited during the Tour Down Under - Corkscrew Hill.

The background is the usual, texture paste and mist. The doily wasn't a true white, so it got misted as well. I have used some 2 Crafty chipboard, rubbed with gilders paste, some Scrappers Garden flowers - love these, with a few other bits and pieces. 

Overall, very pleased with how this came together, and quite quickly in the end, especially as this photo has been on my 'to do' pile since April.

Just lately I seem to be using a few different shades of blue, in the dusty, turquoise, teal type tones, so I thought this would be the perfect colour for my debut entry.

Hello Baby

I started my layout with some Shimmerz Texturez and some Tim Holtz distress ink. To add some extra texture I unraveled some white paper string which I glued in strips along with some washi tape. I also added some mesh that I have had for years - great time to use some up. The chipboard chicken mesh and wood veneer word, I painted with white gesso. I finished the page with some floral embellishments.

Dad's Work Bench

The Show us your stuff challenge this month was to scrap a page with no people allowed.  This was the perfect opportunity for me to scrap a photo taken when visiting the farm where I lived as a child.

My hand made elements are some Scrapper's Garden flowers, the apricots tones coordinate beautifully with the earthy colours I have used.

For the background I used texture paste and mist, with a touch of washi tape.  The chipboard cogs are inked with dark brown and rust, and rubbed with gilders paste. I have complemented these with some rusty metal washers. The circular frame was heat embossed with a blend of aged bronze and ivory powders.

Discover - cycling the Rattler and Riesling Trails

My first time entering the Berry71Bleu challenge.  I just loved the colours in the October mood board, being a fan of green and purple tones it was perfect.

This photo was taken in Auburn, where the Rattler Trail ends and the Riesling Trail begins. Both cycling trails follow the old train line, with the Rattler getting less manicuring, hence the name.

I started with a sheet of Bo Bunny paper from the Beautiful Dreamer range. I added some Shimmerz Texturez (Artie Choked) and Tim Holtz distress spray (Victorian Velvet). To matt the photo I used plain cardstock, with torn and inked edges.

The chipboard pieces I inked in chocolate brown and rubbed with gilders paste in bronze. I finished the page with some floral elements in purple tones and some natural hemp string.

 I really like the look of the grungy cogs sitting next to the flowers.

Spring Garden Makeover

My entry for the October 'Show Us Your Stuff' challenge.

I was inspired by the colours on the mood board, it had a fresh 'spring' feel, which I thought was perfect for my photo, taken during some garden renovation work. I have used the orange and yellow to add a splash of colour to the blues/greens.

I coloured some texture paste that I applied through a script stencil and I hand dyed some cheesecloth to anchor the floral embellishments. I don't often use orange or yellow and do not have much in my stash in those colours, so I made some quilled 'buttons' from cardstock, which I added to the floral cluster.

Another photo of my awesome husband cycling. 

This time he was competing in the Tour Down Under Bupa Challenge.  

Overall I have kept this layout fairly simple because I wanted the focus to be on the photo and the achievement.

I started the background with some tissue print randomly glued down and some washi tapes. Over this I applied some Shimmerz Texturz in white and blue.  The wood veneer cogs I inked with black, then rubbed with some silver metallic paste. The other wood veneers I have simply painted with gesso.

Yay!! I have received notification that this page was the winner in this challenge. Very exciting!

Blast from the Past!

What a great challenge, the perfect way to use some of those products that we 

have had in our 'stash' for years and did not know quite what to do with them!!!

I have used some vintage paper, brads, buttons, ribbon and ric rac.

To give the page a more modern feel, I have incorporated some texture paste, 

stamping and mists.

Dusty Attic - September mood board entry

I really liked the colours of the Dusty Attic September mood board, and I felt that they really suited this photo of my husband's mountain bike.   www.dustyattic.com.au

I started with some texture paste, which I sprayed with various mists, I think I used about five different colours. 

The Dusty Attic Cog Cluster and Cogs#1 chipboard pieces were perfect for the layout.  I coloured them with two shades of brown ink, and smudged on a touch of metallic gilders paste.  

I supplemented the cogs with some metal washers that I 'rescued' from my husband's shed. I also added a few metal brads.

I used the Dusty Attic Blueprint Explore for the title. This piece I left raw so that it stood out on the page. My finishing touches included die cuts, jute cord and hessian scraps.
