Scrap Matrix Challenge

My Happy Place challenge

Hello crafty friends. It is very exciting to be entering the first ever Scrap Matrix challenge....although Vicki has very generously been sponsoring other challenges for a long time now.  I was inspired by the colours of the moodboard, and have used some 'warts and all' photos from my scrap space.

Imagine
I am lucky to have a 'room' to my own, although I do have to share it with our cat Smudge. I have been using this space for almost a year now and there are still some things in the 'I don't know where to put this' pile, so the evolution continues.

Because my layout background and photos are very busy, I have kept the embellishments very simple.

Products from Scrap Matrix: 13@rts Rainbow Colour - bordeaux, navy (duo); Ayeeda Mist Chalk - yellow amber, turquoise, dirty pink; Ayeeda Ink - black; Ayeeda Gesso - white, Faber Castell - whipped spackle (love this); Colour Arte Radiant Gel - vavoom red; and (not sure of the brand) wood veneer title 'imagine'.

Thanks to Vicki and the Scrap Matrix team for a fun challenge, can't wait to see future challenges.
Cheers and Thanks for looking.

Kraft Plus - October Challenge

I can see clearly now

Hello crafty friends. This month I was honoured and very excited to be asked to be a guest designer for Kraft+ with their "I can see clearly now" challenge for October. What a fun challenge, you need to include something clear on your creation.
Why not pop over to the Kraft+ Blog, be inspired by the Design Team and enter this fantastic challenge.

Sharing my creation - 'Sweet'
Another photo taken while at Monarto open range zoo. Yes I do love visiting zoos, love taking photos of the animals, and I do love meerkats!

I wanted to try a 'less is more' approach with this layout, utilising negative space, while also keeping an earthy, natural feel.  For the see-through elements I have used vellum strips and flowers. To create the vellum strips I roughly tore the vellum and inked the edges, after they were glued down I added some accents with Distress Crayons. The vellum flowers are an assortment from my stash. The chipboard pieces (Dusty Attic and 2 Crafty) I have kept raw, except for the title which was inked with Distress vintage photo.

Thank you to Sandra and the team at Kraft+ for another great challenge.
Thanks also to all the sponors for such wonderful prizes.

Background elements - Tim Holtz matt texture paste, grit paste and distress mist, Ken Oliver colour powder, Stampin' Up stampin' write, washi tape, glitter flourish stickers, assorted blooms. D-Lish Scraps glitter enamel dots.

What a great challenge. Thank you to the team from Show us your stuff.

Kraft Plus - September challenge

what's the buzz?

I found this challenge to be a challenge. My inspiration took a winding path, with a few options being rejected, before I decided to run with this idea. I am still not sure if this page is finished...it may have some tweaking before it goes into the album.

Dexter..be happy

Products used: Colour Blast colour paste - leather & deep water; Tim Holtz distress ink - faded jeans, A2Z chipboard frame (cut in half), Charms Creations heart, Studio Calico wood veneers, alphabet stickers, flairs and brads from my stash.

Thanks to Sandra and the Kraft Plus team for their great challenges and thank you also to all the sponsors that support Kraft Plus.

Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo - September challenge

Journey

Escape
A new found love...creating a canvas.
Using an awesome photo taken by my husband during a cycling adventure. I just love the morning mist in the photo, giving a slightly eerie feel.

To begin, I primed the canvas with a layer of black gesso. Then comes the layers...matt texture paste, sand texture paste, lots and lots of chipboard cogs/bolts, and some random metal elements. I built up the centre section of the canvas with scrap chipboard pieces. As I added each layer, I coated all pieces with black gesso.

Before adding the final layers - the chicken wire and the framed photo, I added colour to the  background - a mix of Prima Antique Brillance wax and Prima Art Alchemy mettallique paint.

To frame the photo, I have used a piece of corrugated cardboard, smudged with gesso and wax. The top layer of embellishments are metal cogs, arrows, globes and other bits and pieces.

Thank you to the team at Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo for organising such great challenges each month. This was lots of fun.

Off the Rails Scrapbooking September challenge

Steampunk
offtherailsscrapbooking.blogspot.com.au

Snapshots
One of a group of photos taken during a visit to my old home where I grew up as a child. I just love the colours in the photo, and the way the tank has aged over the years.

To create the background, I coloured some matt texture paste and applied it through a chicken wire stencil. I added kraft paper strips used like washi tape, and added some Prima Brillance wax accents around the edge and on the kraft paper. Other embellishments - metal cogs, jute, wire, chipboard and some paper blooms.

I really LOVED this challenge, any excuse to do steampunk anything! Thanks to the team at Off the Rails Scrapbooking.

Catching yabbies

CSI: Colour Stories Inspiration Case #235

CSI: Case #235

Beautiful together

How I solved the case:

The scheme: all five colours used.
The Evidence: solid white background; flowers; bling; wet medium (shimmer texture paste - sour apple, mist - blackberry, watercolour powder - olive green); eyeglasses, summer elements (bird, butterfly).
The testimony: the inspirational word 'together'.
The scene: Because I like to scrap 6 x 4 photos, I have really tweaked the sketch. Instead of the title down the bottom, I have placed two word stickers. The upper part of the sketch I have increased, using one photo instead of two. I have placed the title where the embellishment cluster was. Where the third photo would be I have placed another embellishment cluster.

Smile - July

Smile

I love the sombre colours on this layout. The texture paste for the stencilled roses is Shimmerz Paste-eez in raspberry sherbet...with 2 drops of black ink added. I am so happy with the finished colour, it matches the roses on the paper beautifully. The corner chipboard pieces I painted with black gesso, and then rubbed on some Prima Art Alchemy wax in brushed iron and amethyst magic. These waxes are my favourite new toys at the moment! The chippie title, I coated with Tim Holtz grit paste, gave it a smudge with chalk ink and randomly glued on some micro beads. I added some micro beads onto the black cheescloth and finished the page with a few pearls.

Thanks for looking.

13arts - challenge #56

Create your own background

Another fun challenge from the 13 arts team.

Hello
Using a photo taken during Aida's visit to South Australia in April. It was a wonderful day, meeting Aida and also meeting Vicki from Scrap Matrix. They are both such lovely caring, sharing people.

To create the background; first I sprinkled some 13 arts Rainbow Colour Duo - navy, spritzed with water and allowed it to dry. Then some purple shimmer spray, some random stamping - rocks and flowers, then over the top of everything I applied some transparent shimmer texture paste (his does not show up in the main photo) through a flower stencil.

Some close ups to show the shimmery texture paste. Apologies for the photo quality of these, the weather was not helpful!

Because I love the crisp, fresh feel of the background, I have kept the embellishments very simple, a few flowers, some flairs, hearts and a bow.

Thank you for looking.
